Scrubby Crochet Pattern
Making a crocheted scrubby is so much fun, and there are several different uses for them. This scrubby crochet pattern will walk you through the step-by-step process of making three different types of crocheted scrubbies in a fun and easy way.
These free crochet patterns are so much fun to make, plus they don’t take a very long time to complete a little scrubby. There are three main types of scrubbies you can make. The first is used as a face scrubby, in the second two types as dish scrubbies. Both types of scrubbies are very useful and easy to make.
Little scrubbies are a fun and easy project that you can easily make by hand. One of the amazing things about making crocheted scrubbies by hand is the rich textures crochet stitches make in the scrubbies.
No matter what type of crochet scrubby you are making, this pattern will help you make them each step of the way, then you can enjoy using them yourself, or giving these little scrubbies away as gifts.
The great thing about these crochet scrubby patterns is that they are useful for many different things. One of the main uses for a crochet scrubby is to use it as part of your skin care routine. This way you can make a few scrubbies, then reuse them and not have to continually buy items to wash your face.
Another perfect thing about these homemade scrubbies is that they make a fantastic alternative to a kitchen sponge. After all, everyone has dirty dishes to clean, and those frustrating pans that are so difficult to clean. Your crocheted scrubby can be the perfect solution to helping you keep your dishes nice and clean.
Crochet Cotton Face Scrubbies
A reusable face scrubby can be made out of cotton crochet yarn. This makes them nice and soft to use on your skin. But you can make just a few of these projects, then reuse them each day as needed. That way you don’t have to continually buy cotton to clean your face, instead you can enjoy making your own reusable face scrubbies.
Crochet Tulle Scrubbies
Crocheted tulle scrubbies are a type of thick crochet scrubby made out of a special type of tulle yarn. These are fun scrubbies to make if you’re looking for a great housewarming gift, or simply something to help you clean your own dishes.
Because of the type of yarn these crochet scrubbies are made from, they are a great way to clean your dishes. The yarn used for this kind of scrubby is particularly thick and has a very rough texture. Making this a perfect cleaning tool.
Another great way to make a scrubby using a special type of cotton scrubby yarn that can be used either as a rough face cleaner, or a handy tool to clean the dishes. My preference is to use it to clean dishes because it is such an effective tool but not quite as rough as the tulle yarn.
This pattern can also be given as a gift or used yourself. If you’re looking to make something for the person on your list that is very hard to give a gift, then choosing one of these patterns might be a perfect solution. After all, everyone can use a scrubby!
Simple Stitches Used
These patterns use only a few basic crochet stitches to make each of these patterns. Let’s look at an overview of each of the simple stitches used.
Chain Stitch. A chain stitch is another very basic stitch that is used as the foundation of many types of projects. To make a chain stitch you’ll first create the magic ring, or slip stitch then wrap the yarn around the hook from the back towards the front, in what is called a yarn over. Pull the new loop through the loop previously on your hook to make a chain stitch.
Single Crochet. A single crochet stitch is another basic stitch used in most crochet projects. To make a single crochet stitch, insert the hook into the stitch indicated, yarn over, and pull up a loop. There are now two loops on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the new loop through the previous two loops on the hook to make a single crochet stitch.
Double Crochet. A double crochet stitch is similar to that of a single crochet, but with a few more steps added. To make a double crochet stitch, yarn over, and then insert the hook into the stitch indicated. Yarn over and pull up a loop. There are now three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the remaining loops on the hook to make a double crochet stitch.
Half Double Crochet. A half-double crochet stitch is in between a single crochet and a double crochet. To make a half-double crochet stitch, first yarn over. Then insert your hook into the stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop. There are now three loops on the hook. Yarn over, and pull through all three loops on the hook to make a half-double crochet stitch.
The Different Types of Yarn
When it comes to making a crocheted scrubby there are several different types of yarn to choose from. Here is a look at the three types of yarn that I would recommend using for each of these projects. Keep in mind you can adjust as desired; these are simply my recommendations.
Face Scrubby Using Soft Cotton Yarn
To make a face scrubby, you are going to want to use soft cotton yarn. It will work best if you use 100% worsted weight cotton yarn. You can find this in the type of yarn that’s used for dish cloths, or 100% cotton yarn such as the 24/7 cotton yarn.
Make sure that whatever type of cotton you choose to use is soft, as it will make a big difference. It can be scrap yarn, or any type of leftover yarn that you have on hand, as you won’t need very much for your face scrubbies. It’s also fun to consider using different strands of yarn, or bright colors of yarn to make your projects.
Kitchen Dish Scrubby
To make your kitchen dish scrubby, some good options are to use Red Heart scrubby yarn, or Hobby Lobby’s Scrub Ology Scrub It yarns. These types of yarn are much rougher and have a texture that will easily clean items around your kitchen.
The other type of yarn that I would recommend using is also found at Hobby Lobby, and that is their Scrub Ology cotton. You don’t need much yarn, to make one scrubby you will need less than a skein most likely.
Each of these scrubby options is a great project to make whether you are looking to make a scrubby for yourself or as a gift to give away. Finding the perfect yarn is a great place to start before you begin making the scrubby crochet pattern.
The crochet hook size that you will need will largely depend on what type of yarn you are using. I would suggest referencing your package to see what the manufacturer recommends for hook size, then try using that hook size.
